The Dream
I was always strong headed and reached for the stars but often skipped the steps in between that were required if I could get away with it .
All I knew is, I have a dream to be signed on with a big label and I was determined to make it come true.

The Plan
One day I called BMG Music just to see what it would take for someone to listen to what I had. I was given several different names and numbers which were mainly answering machines and after accumulating a very large phone bill (mainly from being 'on hold ) I ended up with the final answer of 'have your manager contact us'. Manager? I did not have a manager! and did not know how to get one! Maybe I could rent one? My thinking led me to the perfect plan! My theory was...when all else fails, call MOM! Yes ladies and gentlemen...mom!
I talked her into calling BMG Music even though she was clueless as to how things worked in the record industry and did not know what to say in regards to being a manager, she believed in my music and gave it a try. Middle of the night mom calls BMG music ( UK being 8 hours ahead).
BMG forwarded her to an A&R representative and they talked. A&R rep being under the impression she was my manager (not my mother) and her giving the sales pitch of her talented 'artist' :) After a long winded conversation, the A&R representative said he'd like to meet me. ( did not expect that answer! ). So off we flew to the UK! This was a dream come true! BMG-Music,England,Witchdust!
The Arrival
We stayed in a little BnB in Putney UK . Waiting for the big day to meet the A&R rep of BMG music. It started to hit me, BMG-Music,England,Witchdust! I started thinking ''what ifs'' like...what if MOM does not represent herself like a manager, what if I call her mom by accident, what if he notices the strong resemblance in appearance? Moms answer to all my nerves was ''relax and breathe'' !
The Big Day for Witchdust Music
The big day came. BMG-Music,England,Witchdust. There I was in the main lobby of BMG in London England. My manager ( mom ) let reception know who we were and who we were there to see. We patiently waited while being entertained by a huge screen of music videos.
The door opened and there he was, this was the moment in time I dreamed of. He shook our hands and we followed him to his office sat down and the 'act' was on !! I think my nerves were paralyzed and still in the lobby area. I was still able to find a calm feeling because the confidence was natural when speaking of my music. A&R rep sat beside a large sound system and said ''ok what have you got for me to hear''. Well, I did not know any better so out of a bag I pulled out 12 CDs that contained all my music that I had written, all the genres I was capable of writing.( dance music,pop music,classical music, celtic music,and a few instrumentals) The A&R rep looked a little stunned and said '' could you pick out your best 3 for me to hear? I thought, how can I pick 3 songs out of 120 songs? So I gave him the most recent 3. By the way...to top it off, none of these were professionally recorded. He sat with his eyes closed and turned the volume up real loud. After listening to 3 songs he listened to 2 more.
My Turning Point In Music
Darren (the A&R rep) looked at me and said ''what do you want to do, be a performing artist or a writer?'' I said I want to do both. He then asked what genre I would do because I could only do one genre if I chose to be an artist. I said , '' I want to do all of them''. He then pointed out his window at a high rise building and said ''as a writer you would not have to go on the road travelling and performing, and that high rise building over there you could own the whole thing as well as buy one for me''. He then said '' Darcey you have a wicked voice and I love where your music leads to, but you are also a fantastic writer, you need to figure out what you want to do , narrow it down.''
Narrowing down to one genre or one path ,artist or writer felt restricting to me. I could not narrow my passion for music to 'one choice'
The Outcome
Although I did not hear what I was hoping to hear, it was a blessing. They say what happens, happens for a reason. If it was not for that experience I would not be where I am now. I sing, write lyrics, play keyboard, and compose whatever comes from my heart. Whatever genre it may be. Being an independent music artist enables me to do this as well as compose for others.
